The Clay City Museum of Art
The Clay City Museum of Art is located at 617 Main Street in Clay City. The museum opened in 1966 and features a collection of American and European art from the 16th to the 20th centuries. The museum also has a library, gallery space, and sculpture garden.
The Clay City Museum of Art is open Monday-Saturday 10 am-5 pm, and Sunday 1-5 pm. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors, and children under 12 are free.
Clay City Playhouse
The Clay City Playhouse is a historic theater that has been in operation since 1916. The Clay City Playhouse is located on the northwest corner of Clay and Broadway in downtown Clay City. The theater has been through multiple renovations and additions, most recently in 2006. In addition to performing arts events, the playhouse also houses the Clay County Historical Museum.
The Clay County Courthouse
The Clay County Courthouse is a notable and historic building located in the city of Clay City. Completed in 1893, it served as the seat of Clay County government until 1973. The courthouse is now used as a museum and visitor center.
The Clay County Courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It is one of only two courthouses built in Kentucky during the late 1800s to be designated a national landmark.
The courthouse features a six-story tower topped by an octagonal cupola. Its exterior is made of rusticated sandstone blocks quarried nearby. The main entrance features a portico supported by four Ionic columns. The interior features marble floors and walls, carved woodwork, and marble fireplaces.
Clay City Vineyards and Winery
Clay City Vineyards is the perfect place to tour the Clay City area and taste some of the best wines in Kentucky. The winery offers a variety of tastings, including a wine-tasting academy for children, as well as a vineyard shop with products made from grapes grown on the property.
The vineyard also offers tours of its facilities and a restaurant where you can enjoy dinner while watching the vineyards at work. Located just off I-75, Clay City is an easy stop for travelers on their way to more popular destinations in Kentucky.
